Daily Breakdown

Before you depart: Before the African adventure begins, you will receive in-depth pre-trip training from our trip partners, Unearth the World! This training will cover topics including Global Citizenship, Community History, Power and Privilege, Worldview, as well as what to expect while you are volunteering. The training is delivered directly to your inbox in the weeks leading up to travel and culminates with a pre-trip call to answer any questions, and introduce the group members to each other!

 

Day 1

  • Pick up at Livingstone airport and private transfer to Livingstone hotel
  • Dinner at hotel and opportunity to settle into accommodations.
  • Evening downtime to explore the surrounding area.

Day 2

  • Breakfast in Livingstone at hotel.
  • Private transfer to service project in the fishing village of Mwandi.
  • Site orientation and opportunity to settle into “camp” followed by a group meal.
  • Tour of Mwandi.
  • Dinner at camp prepared by a local cook.
  • Guided reflection and conversation to start getting to know your fellow travelers.

 Day 3

  • Breakfast at camp
  • Morning orientation
  • Morning service project – begin building a home!
  • Lunch at camp
  • 2 hours of continued home building in afternoon.
  • Downtime to read, shower, explore town, etc.
  • Dinner at camp and opportunity to learn and prepare food with local cook.
  • Evening discussion about history and culture of Zambia.

 Day 4

  • Breakfast at camp
  • Morning service project – continue onto next stage of building a home. • Lunch at camp
  • Afternoon building
  • Discussion about education in Mwandi
  • Dinner at camp
  • Game night

 Day 5

  • Breakfast at camp
  • Morning service project
  • Lunch at camp
  • Afternoon service
  • Discussion about healthcare in Mwandi
  • Dinner at camp and opportunity to shop for local artisanal goods
  • Reflection about what it means to serve abroad

Day 6

  • Breakfast at camp
  • Morning service project
  • Lunch at camp
  • Afternoon service
  • Final celebratory dinner at camp

 Day 7

  • Breakfast at camp
  • Early departure for Kasane, Botswana
  • Arrive at hotel in Kasane
  • Lunch at hotel
  • Afternoon boat safari: Kasane sits on the Chobe River, right across from Chobe National Park. This boat cruise safari into the Chobe National Park offers magnificent views of all the regional flora and fauna including birds, hippos, and abundant elephant herds.
  • Dinner at restaurant in Kasane
  • Downtime

Day 8

  • Breakfast at hotel (included)
  • Day Safari to Chobe National Park! Group will spend a full day in the park, exploring both on land and by water. Wildlife includes lions, antelope, giraffes, water buffalo and elephants…to name a few! Lunch is included and eaten in the park.
  • Dinner at restaurant in Kasane.

Day 9

  • Breakfast at hotel (included).
  • Early departure to Victoria Falls – one of the Seven Wonders of the World!
  • Return to Livingstone and guest house.
  • Choice of afternoon activity in Livingstone – anything from bungee jumping to a museum visit.
  • Dinner in Livingstone.
  • Final reflection time.
  • Downtime at hotel.

Day 10

  • Time to head home—depart from Livingstone!
