You’ve read all the posts, seen all the fun. Finally, you determined that WITS ’15 in Boston is the place to be. You determined RIGHT! Now, the challenge is how to get there without breaking the bank. With a little bit of planning, some research and imagination, you could arrive in Boston on March 27, 2015 with extra change to spare.
Boston by Bus
Did you know, depending on what city you live in, you can get to Boston for as low as $1?* The wheels on the bus go round and round — directly to Boston! For attendees residing in Baltimore, Burlington, Hartford, and New York, you can secure a round trip seat for as low as $1 on Megabus — a low-cost, express bus service that offers city center-to-city center travel for as low as $1 on the Internet. If Megabus does not operate in your area, consider Greyhound, Bolt Bus, or other motor coach bus services that are local to your area. The earlier you plan, the better the price.
The perks of booking early
Early planning is also essential with booking airline flights and train tickets. There is really no magic formula. Some say buy tickets 14 days in advance; others say 60 days. Airline tickets vary throughout the day; and the number of seats offered at the lowest fares also changes frequently. Your best bet is to search often, as soon as you can, and jump when you find a deal. Many travel sites allow users to set alerts when prices go up or down. Amtrak offers a program called SmartFares. You can save 25% on select routes if you book Tuesday through Friday. They are available for travel 1-2 weeks after purchase and new destinations are offered every week.
If all else fails — hit the road!
Often times, our budgets may not allow for early planning, last minute emergencies happen, or your boss decides at the last minute that s/he will bless you with the opportunity to take Friday off to attend WITS. If you’re within the USA or reasonable driving distance from Boston, make it a road trip! Grab a couple of your closest friends, put together a killer playlist, gas up your ride and hit the open road. Consider finding a travel buddy you by visiting the Women in Travel Summit Attendees group on Facebook. — Go Girl Travel Network and WITS are not directly affiliated with Megasbus, Greyhound or Amtrak. * Megabus prices vary per destination and time. This information should be used for information purposes only and is subject to change without notice. Prices are not guaranteed and cannot be confirmed until booked.
